Ector County (TX) commissioners voted this week to contract with Texas-based Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson to collect overdue fines and fees. The government collections specialists won the contract over another firm offering to do the work for free.
The Odessa American reported that a representative of Linebarger told the commissioners, “Other firms may say they work for free, but for-profit firms work for a profit. If you look carefully at those firms that say they do this service for free, you will see it might not be all that it is cracked up to be.”
Linebarger will charge a 15% fee on the money it collects on behalf of the county.
